NURSERY RETAILER - IGC Show Issue 2009 by Jeff Morey, Publisher
For years, the flip-top, nesting deck cart has been a favorite among garden centers for its lightweight, easy-to-maneuver design and compact storage.
When the original manufacturer, Rehrig, dissolved last year, the R.W. Rogers Company saw the opportunity in bringing the popular shopping cart back to market.
“When they went out of business, it left a void. So we purchased the molds to make the cart again - we’ve brought it back,” says President Bob Rogers.
R.W. Rogers reintroduced the cart this spring with several improvements to the original design. The once-chrome frame is now made of gray powdercoated welded steel to resist rust, and semi-pneumatic wheels improve maneuverability.
The decks have been strengthened, too. “We’ve put extra supports on the sides, and we’ve increased the flexibility so they won’t break,” says Rogers. The injection-molded structural foam provides heavy duty durability that is also lightweight. Unlike metal decks, the plastic won’t dent and can easily be washed without the worry of rust. In addition to the standard decks in green, custom colors are available for orders of 500 or more.
R.W. Rogers has no minimum order requirement, and discounts are offered based on quantity. The company provides quick fulfillment, with most products shipping within one week of order placement.
